Espada Real Estate is a diversified commercial real estate development and investment company with deep roots in San Antonio and south Texas. Of the five Espada partners, four spent their formative years in San Antonio with the Trammell Crow Company, who developed iconic shopping centers such as The Quarry. In more recent years, Espada partners and their associates have developed and acquired other notable projects including Sonterra Village, Dominion Springs Plaza, St. Paul Square and Brooks Corner shopping center. The name Espada, Spanish for “sword”, speaks to the company’s partners’ long history in San Antonio. The name pays tribute to Mission Espada, the oldest Spanish mission in Texas and one of the five missions in San Antonio that were recently designated as a World Heritage Site.
Espada Real Estate, and its predecessor firm Reata, is a recognized leader in Texas real estate. The principals of the firm have a tradition of success, see opportunity in the present environment, and are excited about the next chapter for the firm and its investment partners. Espada’s roots reach back to when Reata Brokerage and Property Management and Reata Assets, Investments and Development were founded in 2001 and 2012, respectively. The principals of Reata owned both companies; the brokerage company marketed 13,328,000 SF and the property management business had approximately 1,500,000 SF under management at the time of its' disposition. Reata’s leadership in the Texas market was recognized when it was approached by CBRE, a global leader in real estate, to acquire our brokerage and property management companies, along with the Reata brand. This transaction was completed in November 2019, at which point Espada Real Estate was founded to continue our portfolio-based acquisition, investment and development activities in San Antonio, across Texas, and beyond.
